The Era of Classic British Cars

British car design in the 1950s was just starting to get over the bad effects of World War II. Consumer confidence had begun to build. Raw materials were in greater supply. People were starting to get richer. All of this showed as the 50s turned into the 60s and car design began to demonstrate more adventurous design.

Cars were beginning to concentrate on style far more than the period prior to and just after the War. This became the Golden Age of the British Car Industry. People wanted style not just function.

As the time moved into the 70s it became clear that this Golden Age was coming to an end. Strikes and poor quality of manufacture were taking the gloss of the industry.Not only were French, Italian and German cars becoming more acceptable to the British public, but there were even the first signs of the imminent power of the Japanese, and later the Koreans.
